The Glamour Gang

Kailash Surendranath (1965)

I spent my early childhood in various girl's schools such as Queen Mary and Walsingham, but eventually and luckily came to Campion in the 5th standard and passed out of Campion in 1965. with a 14 aggregate. Second only to the unbeatable Jamal Mecklai.
The Sea Scouts, Father More, Mr Hodiwala and especially Mr Sidney Brown had a tremendous impact on me in school. I grew to love maths, developed an analytical sort of mind that tried to understand the meaning of life via numbers, loved the sea, and travel. Sitting next to a likeminded back bencher Ashok Daryanani for the last few years of school I learnt to play guitar from him with the help of diagrams in class. As soon as the ISC exams were over four Campionites (two of them ex) formed a band called the Bad Boys. We played shows in Bombay and Poona and I must say got quite popular. The band definitely helped us debut in the outside world of girls and partying and good times.

I finished my education in St Xaviers College which was of no consequence as I had already started making advertising films, directing independently for my dad in his company at the tender age of 17. By now I’ve done more than a couple of thousand commercials, helped build many brands such as Liril, Nirma, Vimal, Mera Bharat Mahan etc. Won quite a few national and international awards and am still at it going strong and about to produce and direct a couple of feature films. More about me professionally at www.kailashpictureco.com

I am having a good successful life working with my wife and partner Aarti Gupta Surendranath who I met as a model during a Sun Silk shoot in Kodaikanal (I was 25 she was just 15) and have two kids in BIS (boy 11 and girl 9) we preferred to put them together in a co-ed school. Although there is a perception that we are 'party people' thanks to the media, I must emphasize that we work very hard and take pride in our work
Thank you Campion and all the teachers and all my friends from school for having such a positive influence on my childhood. 'Those were the best days of my life’
