Dr
Raiyomand Aspandiar
Attended IIT Powai
from 1972 to 1977 graduating with a B.Tech in
Metallurgical Engineering
Attended Stanford University from 1977 to 1983 and
graduated with a Ph.D in Materials Science
Worked at Intel Corporation from 1983 to present, in
Hillsboro, Oregon, doing various R&D projects,
mostly involved with components that house the
silicon chips inside personal computers.
My present project is
to remove lead from the solders in Intel products
since lead is one of the substances being banned
from electronic products, all over the world (except
the US?!?!) due to environmental concerns.
Its also interesting to note, having played cricket
at Campion with Prashant, Ranjit, Vijay Divecha and
others (Balagovind was our coach), when I moved to
Oregon, there was no cricket being played there
(there were two flourishing leagues in California,
even in the 70s). So, with other enthusiasts, I
founded the Northwest Cricket League, in the states
of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This league has
grown by leaps and bounds now with over 20 clubs,
comprising mostly of expats, though. Next step is to
form a over-50s league in
Oregon, since I've too old and rickety to remain
competitive with the younger guns migrating to these
parts from India and Pakistan. |

After passing out of school I took up radio and TV
repairs. From there I was absorbed into Esquire a
video duplicating
plant
where I had the opportunity of working and training
side by side with the Japanese service technicians.
We installed the PAL and NTSC duplicating plants for
video dubbing of Hindi, Gujarati, and other language
films. I came to the USA in 1983 and worked as a
volunteer in the University of Cincinnati in the Bio
Med department fixing video and television equipment
and installing Satellite systems for them. After
about 2 years their funding ended and had to come
back to India got married and 4 years later, on
February 17, 1988 my first daughter was born. I
returned to USA and worked as a manager for Super
Suds Coin Laundry where I learnt to diagnose the
faults and repair, and managed 9 other laundries in
Cincinnati, Louisville and Lexington. On October 22,
1994, my second daughter was born. I worked with
them for 18 years and then they sold it to the new
owners and I continued to work for them. They then
sold the stores in Cincinnati, Louisville and
Lexington and now I work in Indianapolis under the
name of Laundry & Tan Connection. I am currently the
maintenance supervisor.
